“New Varieties: Urgent Innovation” is the title of the opinion column published by María Isabel Martínez, associate of Villaseca Abogados, in Revista del Campo of El Mercurio.

In the text, it is highlighted the need for Chile to update its legislation in order to incorporate the UPOV 91, since the country undertook to sign it in the Free Trade Agreement with the United States (which entered into force in 2004) and more recently in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) last year. Only under this norm, Chilean agriculture will be able to face the challenges of this highly competitive sector worldwide.
